Post-event wrap-ups

Wine is all about the people behind the bottle, whether it’s those making it or drinking it; so we’re always excited to meet you and introduce you to some of our talented producers – and the brilliant wines they craft – in person.

We hope you have discovered our regular series of tastings and dinners that we host with our producers and buyers, giving you the chance to learn more about your favourite wines, and to mix with fellow wine lovers. For a flavour of what to expect from these occasions – or a recap of an event you might have attended – we have collated an overview of some recent gatherings…

Porftolio Tasting 2025

Great winemaking is an art form, so we were delighted to host our flagship Portfolio Tasting in the inspiring surrounds of the Saatchi Gallery in November 2025. We poured some incredible wines from across the globe, while guests enjoyed artwork from some of the rising stars of the arts world.

South Africa Paulée

A Paulée is traditionally a party at the end of harvest, where food is enjoyed and wine shared; in that spirit, our South Africa Paulée, held at Smith and Wollensky in Central London, brought together an incredible community of wine lovers - each guest sharing a favourite bottle for an evening of discovery, conversation, and exceptional wines.

Next Generation Tasting

Our Next Generation Tasting in Brixton was a discovery of the most interesting and exciting grapes, regions and flavours in the world of wine; our guests were all under-40 and enjoyed a night of wine exploration, with our advisors and producers on hand to guide them on their journey into the world of fine wine.

We poured an intriguing natural orange wine from a producer in France, a textbook example of Austria’s fresh but spicy Grüner Veltliner grape from a father-daughter team in Austria; a vivid rosé from a terroir-focused winemaker in Greece, and much more too.

Women in Wine Tasting

In May 2025, we hosted an evening that celebrated not only exceptional wines — but the exceptional women behind them. From vineyard to cellar to glass, women are shaping the future of wine with creativity, resilience, and purpose, and the event was filled with thoughtful conversation, brilliant wines, and voices that continue to move the industry forward.

One guest summed it up beautifully: “Wine has never been—and should never be—a realm exclusive to men. Representation is essential in inspiring more women to engage with this beautiful industry.”

170th Anniversary Tasting

While 170 years isn’t all that long in the greater history of wine – the oldest evidence of winemaking dates back millennia – Lay & Wheeler has seen an incredible amount of progress in its storied history; the 1855 classification in Bordeaux; the rise of countries such as Australia, New Zealand and now England as excellent wine producing regions; all the technical advances such as stainless steel tanks, temperature controlled warehouses, and even glass bottles. In celebration of our landmark birthday we held a special tasting celebrating the incredible diversity to be found in the wine world today, from emerging regions to new innovations in the classic ones. Here’s to another 170!
