Château Haut-Bailly

Haut-Bailly is a story of reinvention. Its history dates back to the 16th century when the land was acquired by Parisien banker, Firmin Le Bailly and by 1878, Haut-Bailly was commanding prices that rivalled the First Growths. However it fell into a period of decline which was not reversed until 1955 when the estate was bought by Daniel Sanders, a Belgian wine merchant. His fastidious methods saw the vineyards replanted and the winery returned to its former focus on quality.

Haut-Bailly is now owned by the American Wilmers family while Daniel’s granddaughter, Véronique Sanders, is in charge. Together with winemaker Gabriel Vialard, Haut-Bailly’s reputation is stronger than ever and more than deserving of its Grand Cru Classé de Graves status. The 30 hectares of vines are predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and there is a prized 4 hectare parcel of century-old vines which are interwoven with the key Bordeaux grape varieties. Alongside its silky Grand Vin and second wines, in certain vintages Haut-Bailly also makes a rosé de saignée.
