Domaine Burgaud

Pierre Burgaud took the reins from his father in 2020, continuing the great work of this classically brilliant Côte-Rôtie domaine. His father, Bernard Burgaud grew the domaine during the 1980s, replanting forgotten vineyards on the steep schist slopes of the Northern Rhône’s Côte-Rôtie and helping to reignite interest in the region. Pierre tends to 4.5 hectares of prime Syrah vineyards, planted exclusively within the appellation. His 40-year-old vines are responsible for just one wine, whose character is reflective of the changing vintage and is made from a blend of five parcels. Bernard studied winemaking in Beaune in Burgundy, and his wine always reflected a similar elegance. No effort was spared, and Pierre continues to follow his father’s artisanal approach - work on the steep slopes takes place manually, each vine is individually cared for over the growing season and a small amount of new oak is used in the élèvage.
