Calvados
Strictly speaking a brandy, Calvados is a distilled apple cider from Normandy (though it can also be made from perry, cider’s pear-based counterpart). Its rich-but-fresh nature makes it an obvious after-dinner sipper, and a fine accompaniment to cheeses, but it can also work well as a palate-cleanser. In recent times, it is being increasingly seen as an ingredient within vibrant, lifted cocktails.
