Felton Road
Few New Zealand names command such respect and admiration as Felton Road. A benchmark for the country’s Pinot Noir, the producer’s pioneering approach in the vineyard and beyond has set a new standard for Central Otago winemaking. Founded in 1991, the estate has been owned and run by Brit Nigel Greening for almost a quarter of a century now, during which time he has pursued a dedicated path to ever-greater quality – and sustainability. Through its adherence to organic and biodynamic farming, a net-zero carbon footprint and a firm focus on individual sites, Felton Road has set a new standard for New Zealand Pinot and Chardonnay. Its wines are marked by a fresh, crunchy, spicy nature, with wonderfully complex aromas – bold and generous yet graceful and elegant.
The winery’s status is built on a non-negotiable philosophy of organic and biodynamic farming paired with a minimal-intervention winemaking style to ensure the wines are a pure expression of their terroir. Its wines are marked by a fresh, crunchy, spicy nature, with wonderfully complex aromas – bold and generous yet graceful and elegant. The most famous examples are the single-vineyard bottlings, which showcase each site’s distinct character. The flagship Bannockburn Pinot Noir is a consistent highlight, while single-block Pinots like Block 3 and Block 5 are considered among the finest in the New World. The estate’s Chardonnays, particularly the Block 2, are also highly acclaimed for their elegance and precision.
