Neudorf
Founded in 1978 by Tim and Judy Finn – whose daughter Rosie today carries on the family tradition – Neudorf is a small yet mighty operation in the heart of New Zealand’s Nelson region. The Neudorf vineyards tumble down a gentle north-facing slope overlooking the Moutere Valley in the centre of the northern tip of the South Island. Mountain ranges to the east, south and west provide a rain shadow effect, while the Tasman Bay to the north ensures a maritime climate, enabling the production of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with integrity and excellence. The focus is very much on sustainability with the winery run on solar power – an initiative aided by the fact that Nelson has some of the longest sunshine hours in New Zealand. All estate owned blocks are organically certified and the old vines are dry farmed, while the vineyards have rich biodiversity interspersed with hop gardens, orchards and berry farms. In the cellar, the team have switched to lightweight bottles and compost all winery and food waste.
