French Pinot Noir
When you talk of French Pinot Noir, you’re really talking of Burgundy – the spiritual home of the grape, and the source of some of the most coveted wines in the world. Pinot is the source of all the great reds of Burgundy, with the most prized, ‘cru’ vineyards in the region’s famous Côte de Nuits yielding astonishingly nuanced, delicate, haunting renderings of this famously sensual variety. Throughout the region, though, Pinot delivers a wonderful marriage of charming red fruit with varying degrees of structure and savoury nuance. The variety is also one of the three key components of most Champagnes, including several ‘Blanc de Noirs’ cuvées made solely of black grapes.
