Loire Red Wine
Perfumed, vibrant Cabernet Franc is the crown jewel of the Loire’s red wines – especially those from the Chinon commune - making for an elegant, medium bodied wine known for its wonderful fresh raspberry, cherry and plum flavours, along with an irresistible floral or herbal quality. ‘Pencil shavings’ is an unusual note you’ll sometimes find in tasting notes for this variety. You’ll also find expressions of Pinot Noir and Gamay in the Loire, both thriving in the relatively cool climate of this historic wine region.
