Ribera del Duero Wine
Undoubtedly the country’s second most renowned wine region, after Rioja, Ribera del Duero is a Spanish powerhouse, producing bold, structured reds. Like Rioja, the wines are primarily made from the Tempranillo grape variety (known as Tinto Fino here), but generally show greater depth and intensity via ripe black fruit, spice and firm tannins. And while the wines also see generous oak ageing, adding complexity and ageability, high-altitude vineyards and extreme temperature shifts create wines with greater freshness and vibrancy compared to Rioja’s smooth, textured, red-fruited charm. The result is muscular yet refined wines that can rival top Bordeaux for expression and ageability.
