French Chardonnay
Chablis from Burgundy is probably the most famous French Chardonnay, in which this chameleonic grape shows its sleeker, more mineral-and-citrus tinged side. Elsewhere in Burgundy – the natural home of elegant Chardonnay, with its diverse soils and cooler climate - you’ll find different expressions of the grape, from the richer, stone-fruited and oaked styles to taut, crisp examples where citrus and apples come to the fore. In the rest of France, you’ll find Chardonnay as one of the three grape varieties used in making Champagne, bringing freshness and vibrancy to the blend, or used alone to create Blancs de Blancs Champagne.
