New Zealand North Island
New Zealand’s North Island offers a dizzying array of different wine styles, from Hawke’s Bay’s seductive Bordeaux blends to Gisborne’s pure but rich-tasting Chardonnays and much more besides. Kumeu, a sub-region of Auckland is probably North Island’s best-known wine region, with its oceanic climate bringing freshening sea breezes and warm summers, allowing for a longer ripening window; hence its renown for crisp, balanced Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs.
